I would like to use samples of IPUMS data in training we do here at UW-Madison which is also available online (it will be a revamp of https://ssc.wisc.edu/sscc/pubs/sfr-in…). Is it an acceptable use to make example files available on our web site for this purpose?
The answer largely depends on which sets of IPUMS data you intend to share. If you are using the public use microdata sample data from IPUMS USA, IPUMS CPS, IPUMS Health Surveys, IPUMS Time Use, or IPUMS Higher Ed, then this use of data sharing is permitted. If, however, you are using data from IPUMS International, IPUMS Global Health, or the full count data files from IPUMS USA, there are additional data sharing restrictions. Feel free to email ipums@umn.edu with additional detail and any questions.
