I am a professor whose Master’s student used data from IPUMS CPS in his Master’s thesis. He has submitted his thesis (in which he cites the data), and the department wants him to upload his data to an online repository, much as journals often ask for published paper. On the IPUMS CPS website, it says “You may publish a subset of the data to meet journal requirements for accessing data related to a particular publication. Contact us for permission for any other redistribution; we will consider requests for free and commercial redistribution.” Does this permission apply to data for an MA thesis that has been published in an online departmental collection of theses?
