Hello,
I am just wondering when IPUMS expects to make available the microdata from the USA 2020 Decennial Census (presumably the 10% sample)? Even a rough approximation of when this may be released would be helpful.
Thank you,
Jacob

At this time, the Census Bureau has not yet decided if they will release a PUMS for the 2020 decennial data. It is worth noting that the Census Bureau announced sweeping changes to their disclosure control in public use data. A PUMS file for 2020 is not listed on the Census Bureau’s 2020 Data Products page currently, but I would encourage you to check their page as well as the IPUMS page on changes to Census Bureau data products (the first link) for updates.
Hi – now that the Census Bureau has released the Privacy-Protected Microdata File from the 2020 Census, will you be creating an IPUMS version? I know the PPMF is pretty different from all the other microdata files, primarily because there are no links between the housing and person records, so it’s understandable if you’re passing on this one. Still, it could be a handy way to access the data. Thanks!
Thanks for your patience in awaiting a response. At this point, we don’t have plans to release the PPMF via IPUMS USA, but we will keep it on our radar as something that may be of interest.
