Census is releasing ACS 5-year 2019-2023 data on 12/10. I’m wondering when IPUMS will make the data available? Thanks!
The Census Bureau will release the summary data from the 5-year 2019-2023 ACS on December 12. These data are aggregated at various geographic levels, and are not person- or household-level data. We will provide these data on IPUMS NHGIS. We hope to release the data ahead of IPUMS office closures later this month (before December 23).
The Census Bureau will release the public use microdata sample (PUMS) from the 5-year 2019-2023 ACS on January 23. These data are person-and household-level data. We will provide these data on IPUMS USA. Our team works quickly to integrate and harmonize new samples, and will release the data as soon as possible once they are made available. IPUMS does not gain early access to the PUMS. Keep an eye on the IPUMS USA revision history and your inbox for an announcement of the data release.

Hello, I am working on a project and trying to determine whether to use the 1-year 2023 data or the 5-year. As best as you can, can you estimate whether the 5-year data will be available by the end of February? Thanks so much for any insights in this release! Sorry, I should have been more clear with my question. I am specifically wondering about the timeline for the release of the 2023 5-year sample through IPUMS, since the PUMS Microdata was just released a few days ago. Thanks!

As Dan Backman shared in this post, IPUMS staff are currently processing the 2019-2023 5 year ACS microdata. We expect these to be complete within the next few weeks and will notify registered users via email when they are available. Hope that helps you make a decision on how to best proceed with your research.
