Does NHGIS plan on creating shapefiles of 1940 enumeration districts?
We currently have no plans to create 1940 ED shapefiles ourselves. We know of two researchers at other institutions who have done some work on this, and we’ve talked with them about integrating their products into NHGIS in the future, but there’s no timeline for that yet.
You might reach out to these other researchers to find out more about their progress and whether they’re able to share any shapefiles:
