Time Use Variable Names

Hi! Is there a reason why you can’t use names of deleted time use variables? It’s quite inconvenient that you can’t use the old name when you have to change a time use variable slightly (e.g. just add one additional category). Or is it just me and I don’t see the option to update old time use variables?

Thanks for asking about this–I appreciate that it is frustrating to have to modify your code and your time use variable! The decision to not allow time use variable names to be re-used theoretically allows us to reproduce previous extract requests using the same specifications. I have, however, passed the comment along to the IPUMS Time Use team to consider if this is something we might change in the future.
