Need help developing insights on renter vs home owners and trends in outdoor juvenile products for yards.

Trying to undersatnd trends among renters vs. owners on how they use their yards.

  • Yards getting larger or smaller?

  • Households with young kids - what features matter for outdoor recreation and play products? And if the family rents might they not invest in the yard?

  • really trying to understand outdoor play patterns: sandboxes, trampolines, large wooden vs. plastic vs/ metal swing sets, pools, play houses, sports equipment, etc.

Outside of trends in the general frequency of ownership vs. renting (see OWNERSHP), the IPUMS resources are unlikely to be helpful to your specific research questions. My recommendation would be to start with the American Housing Survey (AHS), as it contains information about ownership/rental of the unit, square footage of the unit and the lot, presence of an outdoor swimming pool and investment in the property.

Hope this helps.
