I am using time use data for multiple countries and I have noticed that data on income are missing for Italy survey 2008, even if they are supposed to be in the dataset.
Does anyone know why?
The Italian Time Use Surveys don’t provide information on the level of monthly net household income or about individual income. The extract system makes it seem that there is data on these variables in the 2008 survey, but in fact all values there are assigned the value -9 (impossible to construct this variable). This is documented on the source documents page. I will see if the Time Use Team can make this more apparent. It’s left unclear whether income data was ever collected in the Italian survey. To find out whether it was and if it can be accessed you will likely need to reach out to the Italian National Statistics Institute.
