Is it possible to get more granular geographical information (e.g., address) from the 1940 full sample census?

I know that the 1940 census recorded address and I’m hoping to use this information. Right now with the IPUMS interface I can only get down to the city level.

At this time the smallest unit of geography available for the 1940 full-count data available on IPUMS-USA is city. Eventually the data will be geocoded, but since this is being done with a grant at a different university, there is no current estimate of when it will be completed.

If addresses are necessary for your research, IPUMS-USA will be offering restricted access to the internal files containing variables like street names to a limited number of researchers. For more information about the application process, contact ipumsres@umn.edu.
