When I look through the Published Census Volumes on the IPUMS USA website, I can find income data for Census places, like New London, CT, in the year 1950.
However, when I try to download the same data in CSV form from NHGIS, none of the data seem to be available before 1970.
Am I missing something? Or is this as it should be?
That’s all correct. Most NHGIS data from before 1970 comes from other researchers who have been converting data from print sources to machine-readable formats. Not all census volumes have yet been converted, and not all converted data are in NHGIS. This includes place and urban area data from before 1970.
