Genealogy Research back to 1850 Census Data

I am interested in building an AI to parse Census data back to 1850. How do I get access to any csv files you have created. I have and account there at IPUMS but can’t find there treasure trove that Google Gemini tell me about.

Thanks.

The specifics of your research project are unclear to me, so I am going to first share general information about the IPUMS terms of use and then provide information about accessing the data. Please follow up if you have further questions based on your specific application of the data. Note that the IPUMS USA usage license prohibits redistribution of the full count census microdata or using these data for personal genealogical research. We are aware of many research projects that analyze IPUMS data using a local AI or LLM; using such tools is appropriate assuming they do not violate other license terms.

The data are not available for bulk download – the IPUMS USA interface allows you to create a customized data extract by adding samples and variables to your data cart (see our short video tutorials for a step-by-step guide). The 1850-1950 full count census data can be found by navigating to the Select Samples page and clicking the “USA FULL COUNT” tab. We also offer representative samples from the decennial censuses containing between 1%-10% of records) on the main “USA SAMPLES” tab. Note that the names of enumerated persons (NAMEFRST and NAMELAST) are only available in select representative samples and are not available in the full count data. The version of the full count historical data that include names is only available for those with a restricted use license.

Answer the reply. I’ve learned a lot over the last week or two, so I know a lot more than when I asked the question. So my question is now I I have list of samples and variables I like to use. How can I share them with people on the Internet? Such as use these variables or use these samples. Is there an output from one of the screens that I can share with someone to use as input for their screen.

Second part to your question, my question. What does this mean? I can’t share to do research on genealogy projects. I signed something and I’ll abide by it, but I’m not sure what it means. I’m not a lawyer. So if I take the data from an IPUMS download and turn it into a GEDCOM. Is that OK for me to share the GEDCOM. I’m not talking about facts. I’m only talking about who’s whose father, whose his sons. Is that something that’s allowed? Or did I say that I already signed a paper saying I can’t do that? To be clear, I am not selling anything. I am just offering friends and family a starting point to create a family tree,
