Where can I go about finding the 1940 Census with last names included? Is this data available?
The public use versions of data from IPUMS USA (including full count historical data) do not include names; however, we offer restricted use licenses for accessing versions of our full count historical data that include additional fields (e.g., names). Researchers interested in accessing restricted use versions should email ipums@umn.edu with details about their research project and clearly address why they require restricted fields.
