I’m trying to estimate divorce in sub-Saharan Africa, but most surveys only ask about CURRENT marital status (when many women have remarried). Are there any IPUMS data that ask about how first unions ended? Thanks!
While both IPUMS-International and IDHS include some marital history questions for sub-Saharan African countries, I was not able to locate a variable that explicitly indicates whether or not a respondent’s first marriage ended in divorce.
