Hi,

I’m trying to identify disabled people. I notice that ACS no longer has the variable “DISABWRK” after 2007. I’m wondering if there is any other variable can be a good subsitute?

Yes, you are correct. The DISABWRK variable is not available from 2008 onward. As far as available subsides, there are a number of more specific difficulty questions (e.g. cognitive difficulty, ambulatory difficulty, etc.) available on the disability variables page in IPUMS USA. Alternatively, IPUMS CPS has a similar DISABWRK variable available every year in the ASEC sample from 1988 through 2018. I’m not sure if either of these alternative options will work for you, but they seem to have some potential.
