Yes, this should be possible within IPUMS USA. Although the information you are looking for is not available via an existing variable, a combination of the variables available may do the trick. First, the SCHOOLvariable identifies school attendance. Second, to identify individuals who are children of the head of the household, there are a couple of different options. One option is to use the FAMUNIT variable, which indicates to which family within the household each person belongs. For example, in inter-generational household should have two family units within the household. Another option, is to use the MOMLOC or POPLOCvariables. These variables identify the person number (PERNUM) of the child’s mother or father, if they live within the same household.
