IPUMS-DHS is missing certain country surveys even though the DHS site does have them available for download. Currently, IPUMS-DHS is missing Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, Gambia, and Togo. All of these countries have standard DHS survey data available on the DHS website, but IPUMS-DHS doesn’t offer them. Why?
The IPUMS-DHS staff is a small team who can process only a limited number of surveys per year. We will be releasing more data, for Senegal, Namibia, Lesotho, Burundi, Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Angola this fall, probably in October. We expect to add more countries, including Nepal and Jordan, by Spring 2019. We hope to have included all the standard publicly available DHS surveys for Africa by the end of 2019.
In our funding proposal to the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development, we promised to add at least 80 samples over 5 years, and we are on track to exceed that goal by a considerable margin. All the countries you mention should be included by the end of 2019, at the latest.
