Could this include private sources or does it refer to a specific public program? If the latter, which programs are included in this variable?
The CPS defines child support (see glossary) as “money received from a parent for the support of their children following a divorce or legal separation.” Child support payments are therefore paid by private individuals. Other variables in the CPS child support supplement such as CSLEGAL and CSAGREE specifically cite an agreement with the child’s father/mother to provide financial assistance as constituting child support.
