I’m working on a homework assignment for my labor economics course and I need to analyze data from the state which I was assigned (Maryland). I have my variables selected and the sample year that I need, but I’m not sure how to get the state level subsample. Any assistance would be appreciated.

You can download the whole data set for the U.S. and subset on statefip variable in your software of choice.
Alternatively, when you create an IPUMS data extract, once you select the variables, you can go to “create extract”, and on that screen, you need to hit “select cases”. Then you can select your variable (statefip) and find Maryland (statefip==24) in the list.
