How can I calculate an estimate for the number of individuals in nursing homes with Medicaid coverage, for San Diego County? I have looked at the CPS and ACS codebooks but none of the group quarters variables include details about the type of group home.

Unfortunately this is a tough question to tackle with IPUMS data. The closest I can find to this information is in IPUMS-USA; “Institutions for the elderly, handicapped, and poor” was a category for GQTYPE for up until 1980, but isn’t included in more recent years. After a quick search online, I found that the CDC has a National Nursing Home Survey that seems to provide information on medicaid. You may want to check out this resource.
