Has there been any consideration of adding HMDA tables to NHGIS (and other IPUMS data sets)?
It would be especially useful to have data by tract, such as # of home purchase loans, average mortgage amount, denial rates, etc.
We haven’t previously given this much consideration, and it isn’t a goal of our current NHGIS grants (which run to 2028 and 2029), so we won’t likely prioritize this soon, but we still appreciate the suggestion. I agree that it could be very useful to include HMDA data in NHGIS. We’ll add it to our list of potential future work. Thanks!
