I’ve downloaded the data in .dat, .dta, and .csv, and no matter which I select, I cannot get them to open in winrar, win7zip, or winGzip, all I get is an error that the file is corrupted. Attempting to repair the file gives me a corrupted header warning.
I just looked into your IPUMS CPS account and was able to download your extracts with no problem. One potential issue may be, however, that your data extract is quite large with 56 ASEC samples. This might be causing your computer to complain a bit. One solution is to download this data in smaller chunks. Additionally, we have an online video tutorial that walks through the necessary steps for downloading and opening IPUMS data. This can be helpful in troubleshooting any issues.
