Hello wonderful IPUMS folks. Using the recently released 2024 five-year ACS data. Typically, we shouldn’t assume consistent PUMA boundaries across multi-year files with span redefinitions of these spatial units. But the most recent details for PUMA, located here, indicate that the 2023 five-year ACS applied 2020 PUMAs across all years. I do not see any documentation on whether this also applies to the 2024 five-year ACS. I assume it does, but wanted to be sure. Any insight?
Yes, the 2024 5-year ACS also uses the 2020 PUMA definitions across all years in the data. We will improve our documentation to be clearer in stating that this was not only the case in the 2023 5-year sample, but the 2024 5-year sample as well.
