I am using an ACS 5YR file. I recall being able to check my weighted estimates against those produced by IPUMS on some basic demographics like race and age to make sure I applied weights properly. Am I mistaken or is there a source to go to for checks like that? Sorry if my question is unclear and thanks in advance!
IPUMS generally does not publish aggregated statistics, but there are a large number of statistics available from the Census Bureau via data.census.gov. These would be your best bet for checking your numbers. Be aware that we generally do not expect to exactly replicate official statistics with public use microdata for the ACS. This is because the public use microdata uses a slightly different sample than what is used to generate “official” statistics. You can read more about this detail on this page.
