Hi, I need to find census tract levels for the city of Detroit for 2000 and 2010, how can I go on about it?
for 1960-1990, I found pdfs from census and looked through the SMSA/MSA info to manually find the census tract for Detroit city.
I learned that from 2000 onwards the information is onwards but I couldn’t find it anywhere after a lot of searching. Any help is appreciated!
The Census Bureau provides maps of census tracts by state. See the maps for 2000 here, and those for 2010 here.
IPUMS NHGIS also provides shapefiles for census tracts and cities that you can overlay to determine which tracts are contained within the city of Detroit. You can access summary data and shapefiles by searching for your criteria in the data finder (see this brief video tutorial on using the data finder). For example, the search below shows the shapefiles (as well as summary data tables and time series tables) that are available for 2000 census tracts:
