I am trying to analyze the different Asian Race Combinations using the detailed RACE variable in the 2015 USA PUMS, but notice that they many are still aggregated into the “Other Asian Race Combination” category; is there any way to obtain the write-in answers/more detailed information?
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide the original write in responses for RACE as this data is not publicly released by the Census Bureau. The detailed RACE variable is currently the most detail we have available through IPUMS USA. The original write-in information can be accessed with an a Census Research Data Center (RDC). There is a bit of a process involved in order to start a project in an RDC. I would recommend reading the “How to apply” page if this is the route you choose to take.
