Variable number of rooms - 1940s census

Hello,

I am looking for the value of rents by number of rooms in the 1940s census. Unfortunately, even for the 1940 full count there does not seem to be information on the number of rooms (see “dwelling characteristics”) .
However, the 1940 official publications of the housing census (1940 Census of Housing: Volume 2. General Characteristics) contain information on the number of rooms by cities and metro areas. This seems to indicate that the information on the number of rooms was collected in 1940.

Does this mean that I am not searching correctly for the Ipums data?

Or does this mean that for some reason, the data was only published, but not stored?

Thank you

Francisco

As you suggested, the housing census data from 1940 was not preserved. Unfortunately the only information we have from that form is what was published by the Census Bureau at the time.
