Top code for INCSUPP, INCSS (documentation question)

Continuing the discussion from Bottom codes for INCINVST in ACS:

Hi,

INCSUPP indicates that there is no topcode for ACS for 2006-onwards. But, at least in 2023, there does seem to be a topcode, per the 2023 top code excel file.

Likewise, INCSS says there are no topcodes for 2005-onwards, but this may also be inaccurate.

I haven’t check other variables or years – so there may be other variables with this discrepancy.

From 2018-onward, the variables INCSUPP, INCSS, and INCWELFR are top coded to the state-specific 3% threshold based on the full microdata sample. The codes sections for each of these variables on IPUMS USA do not reflect this change, and erroneously state that top codes are no longer applied. We will correct the codes sections for these variables, and are reviewing our documentation of top and bottom codes for other variables to ensure it is up-to-date. The top code and bottom code list files listed on this page should be accurate.
