Is there a way to get the tax vairables such as EITC, FICA, FEDTAX, STATETAX before 1992? I think these informations are also available for the 1980s in the original data as well. Thanks.
Adding the tax variables for pre-1992 samples is a part of IPUMS-CPS’s planned expansion, however, there are a number of high priority variables and supplements currently being worked on so it is unclear how soon the expansion of the tax variables will be possible. In the meantime, as you mention, these variables are available in the original CPS data via NBER. Because NBER and IPUMS-CPS files share a common sort order, it is possible to sequentially merge the raw CPS data files from NBER onto an IPUMS-CPS extract (as long as you have not used the select cases option).
