Hi,
I was wondering if there exists a SPSS syntax containing the recoding of NAPPHISCO to HISCO.
Instead of using the dictionary and translating one by one, an already-made syntax would be of great help and make my work way faster.
Thanks.

The values of OCCSTRNG were coded directly to the revised set of codes created for OCCHISCO. Accordingly, IPUMS do not have a crosswalk or a syntax file describing the relationship between OCCHISCO and HISCO, although HISCO codes are the basis for the values in OCCHISCO. However, this paper (referenced in the variable description, but the link is not updated) describes the differences and is a good starting point for creating a crosswalk between the two coding schemes.
