My understanding is that the USA-linked censuses tab is relatively new in that I used to be able to simply check off a box in the full-count tab once the years of interest were selected. It used to be the case that I was able to select 1 (link) under the link[year] variables under select cases (screenshot attached); however, these variables do not seem to pop up under select cases (though it’s in my list of variables); is IPUMS now implicitly only including those meeting the case selection criteria of being linked in 1910 and in 1940 even if it no longer shows under select cases? I’ve attached an image of what it used to look like
You are correct that the USA linked censuses tab was recently revised. You are also correct that the new interface now automatically includes only those linked cases (essentially selecting cases based on the appropriate LINK* variables but not exposing that in the case selection tool). As part of these changes, we have added a more explicit warning about using (further) case selection with linked data directly in the web interface (e.g., if you restrict your file to a single state using STATEICP, case selection will drop any linked cases for persons who do not live in that state for all census years that you include).
