I am confused about the documentation for QINCWAGE. ( IPUMS USA: descr: QINCWAGE ) It says that QINCWAGE is the Flag for Incwage, Inctot, Incearn. Does this mean that if INCWAGE was NOT imputed, but INCEARN or INCTOT was imputed, that QINCWAGE would indicate that the value of INCEARN was allocated? Thank you for your reply!

The variable INCWAGE reports wage and salary earnings. The variable INCEARN reports wage and salary earnings, and business and farm earnings. The number reported in INCEARN is the total of INCWAGE, INCBUS, and INCFARM in 1990, and the total of INCWAGE and INCBUS00 for the 2000 census and the ACS. The variable INCTOT reports total income, and is the sum of a large number of income variables, including INCWAGE.
When INCWAGE is altered or allocated, this affects INCWAGE and variables that include INCWAGE as a component: INCEARN and INCTOT. The data quality flag QINCWAGE indicates that INCWAGE was edited. It does not imply that INCEARN or INCTOT were directly edited; but an edit in INCWAGE does affect those variables, and so they are listed in the QINCWAGE documentation.
