The NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) codes are subject to changes over time. While there are concordance files available that link NAICS codes between different years (2002 to 2007, 2007 to 2012, and 2012 to 2017),but what I needis for a consistent NAICS coding system that spans across these periods. This consistency is crucial for my analysis. I am looking for a resource or method that allows for the matching of different files to a uniform NAICS code throughout these times. Is there a consolidated NAICS code resource or a way to achieve this consistency across different time frames?
I am not aware of a source of a consistent NAICS coding scheme. However, you should be able to use the crosswalks between different versions of NAICS codes that you mentioned to create your own set of consistent NAICS codes.
IPUMS USA offers two harmonized industry variables you may find useful. IND1950 recodes information about industry into the 1950 Census Bureau industrial classification system, and IND1990 does the same for the 1990 classification system. You can use these variables for a comparable industry classification scheme over time.
