Is there a mapping between the METAREA codes and the GEOID provided by the ACS?

The METAREA uses IPUMs geographic code and naming convention which differs from the GEOID and naming convention used by the ACS (see the CBSAs in http://www.census.gov/acs/www/Downloa…)

Is there a mapping from the METAREA codes provided by IPUMs and the CBSA convention provided by ACS?

Thanks,

BC

There isn’t a direct or clean mapping, unfortunately. The METAREA codes for the ACS are based on 2000 metropolitan areas and created using PUMAs. See the METAREA comparability tab for more details. You could potentially map METAREA to PUMA using the METAREA translation table and then map PUMA to CBSA with the Mable/Geocorr tool, though this wouldn’t be clean or simple.
