Is it possible to link NHIS & Time-Use data?
Or can NHIS be linked to Census data in the USA census?

Most broadly, can any of the data across survey types be linked?

I assume you are asking specifically about linking individual person records between the different IPUMS data collections. Please let me know if you had a different type of data linkage in mind.

IPUMS harmonizes and integrates data from a wide variety of surveys and censuses. Therefore, the vast majority of IPUMS data collections represent a unique sampling frame with respondents who are either unique to that survey and/or cannot be linked to any other IPUMS project. However, a few exceptions do exist.

Both the American Time Use Survey (ATUS, part of IPUMS Time Use) and the Current Population Survey (IPUMS CPS) are conducted for the US Census Bureau on behalf of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. A subset of CPS respondents are selected to participate in the ATUS; these respondents can be linked across the two datasets. This IPUMS user guide outlines two different methods that you may use. The unique IPUMS linking identifier CPSIDP is available through both IPUMS ATUS (CPSIDP) and IPUMS CPS (CPSIDP) and can be used to link respondents across these files.

Another exception is the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) and the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS), both available through IPUMS Health Surveys. However, linking respondents between these two surveys requires approval through a Federal Statistical Research Data Center (FSRDC). IPUMS does not process these applications and any data agreement would be between the user, the corresponding Federal agency, and the research institution.
