Inquiry Regarding 2010 Education and Nativity Data Coverage

I am seeking clarification regarding the availability of education and nativity data for all counties in the 2010 census. From my research, I understand that the decennial census includes data for 3,221 counties, with statistics available on variables such as sex, age, and race. However, I have observed that educational attainment and nativity data are only available in the ACS 1-year estimates, which cover only 818 counties with populations exceeding 50,000.

Could you please confirm if there is a way to access the 2010 education and nativity data for all counties, or if such data is not available outside of the ACS 1-year estimates?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hello,

The ACS 5-year estimates provide education and nativity data (along with sex, age and race data) for all counties in the United States. The 5-year datasets is the only ACS product that provides estimates for all counties.

You have a couple of options - you can use the 2006-2010 ACS 5-year dataset (ending in 2010) or the 2008-2012 ACS 5-year dataset (centered on the year 2010) for your research project.

Sincerely,
