Income in the decennial censuses

I am working on my bachelor thesis. The topic is differences on the labor market due to race/ethniticity in the postbellum US South. However, personal and family income are not available for the decades 1870-1900.
My question is: Is this information somewhere available?

Questions about income were first added to the decennial census in 1940; thus, you will not find data about income in 1870-1900.

I recommend researching the OCCSCORE variable to see if you can use it as a proxy for personal or family income.
