The FTOTVAL variable has no missing values. Is this because the missing values have been imputed? Is it possible to determine which observations have imputed values?
The values for FTOTVAL are calculated by the Census Bureau by summing all values of INCTOT for every individual included in each family. The key complication here is that INCTOT itself is the sum of various different income components (see the comparability tab for a discussion of this detail). So, in order to identify imputed values of FTOTVAL you’ll need to pull in the flags from each of the income components. As it happens, I recently wrote a blog post about this topic. I hope this helps.
