County FIPS code data for CPS microdata in the 1980s

Hi,

I am trying to find FIPS code data for the CPS microdata samples from 1980 to 1995. Currently the data extract only shows FIPS entries from 1996 onwards. Does IPUMS simply not have this data? Would I be able to find this data if I worked with CPS raw data?

I apologize if this question has been asked before.

I am not aware of CPS microdata files for this time period that include county FIPS codes attached to them (either at IPUMS or elsewhere (e.g., NBER)). However, there are metropolitan area FIPS codes in these years (see the IPUMS CPS METFIPS variable).
