I think that the IPUMS USA variable MIGPLAC1 will give you exactly the information you are looking for. For individuals who report living in a different house 1 year ago this variable identifies the state in which they lived 1 year ago. There are also other migration variables available through IPUMS USA, which are sporadically available in various samples. You may want to give these variables a look as well.
