Aggregation of census tracts in NYC

Hi,

I am interested in understanding the education level distribution, unemployment level and non-participation in labor market, % receiving public assistance, and age distribution at aggregations of census tracts in NYC (each aggregated area is smaller than a PUMA in NYC). For each aggregation of tracts, should I just add all the counts related to education, labor force participation, public assistance and age from each tract to form the total estimates?

Thanks

The method you have outlined to estimate populations for different variables among aggregations of census tracts sounds reasonable to me. Summary tables from NHGIS at the census tract level contain the total populations for a variable within a census tract. A sum of the totals for a variable among an aggregate of census tracts will give you the total population for that variable within that aggregate of census tracts.
