Is there a way to find the median income or rent for a population group using the IPUMS abacus tool? I’m new to using this site and don’t have stats software, but it feels like this should be possible? Right now I’m just getting counts for different income ranges, which isn’t helpful for me.
The current version of Abacus is primarily designed as an online tabulator. To this end continuous variables, such as income or rent, are by default broken up into categorical bins. If you do not have access to a statistical software, then the next best solution is to use the SDA online analysis tool. This tool has a little more functionality than Abacus and has the ability to calculate simple summary statistics such as the mean and median of selected variables.
