2010 NHIS - Sex variable coded incorrectly?

Hello,

I downloaded NHIS 2010 for SPSS.

The sex variable values are 1=male, 2=female. But upon looking at the data, the values for the sex variable are 0 or 1 only.

Is this correct? If so, which is which?

I downloaded fixed width and SPSS formatted data extract from IPUMS NHIS that included the variable sex and am seeing only 1 and 2 values as described in the IPUMS NHIS documentation. Is it possible that you recoded the variable in your syntax to be a binary variable and are observing those values rather than the original values in the IPUMS NHIS data?
