2010 Census Blocks to 2010 ZCTAs relationship file

Hi there,

I am looking for a relationship file between 2010 census tabulation blocks and 2010 ZCTAs. Such a file seems to exist for 2020 blocks and ZCTAs but not 2010. In case it is relevant, I am particularly interested in California. Any guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

IPUMS NHGIS has crosswalks that relate 1990, 2000 and 2020 census blocks to 2010 ZCTAs, and 2010 census blocks to 2020 ZCTAs. We don’t provide any crosswalks or relationship files for pairs of levels from the same census year (e.g., 2010 blocks and 2010 ZCTAs).

That said, if you download any block-level 2010 census data tables from NHGIS, through the NHGIS Data Finder, each block record includes codes for all of the units that contain the block, including ZCTAs.

Alternatively, you could use Geocorr, a website that allows users to select almost any pair of census geographic levels from the same census year (including 2010 blocks and ZCTAs) and generate a relationship file between them.
