I would like to link outgoing rotation group data across one year to examine turnover and hourly wages. I understand how to link records from MIS4 to MIS8, but I’m not sure whether I should use the ORG weight (EARNWT) or one of the longitudinal weights that IPUMs provides.
There is no specific longitudinal weight available for linking ORG recipients between samples. My suggestion in this case is to average the EARNWT across all of the samples you are linking together. Also, since there is not a clear methodological choice here, I’d likely want to check for robustness of results to the use of each of the weights from all of the individual samples.
