Smoking Intensity in TUS-CPS (tcigday) in May 2015

Hello,

It appears that the IPUMS version of May 2015 wave of TUS-CPS does not have a smoking intensity variable for current smokers. (Labeled tcigday in other TUS-CPS files, including Januray 2015.) Based on CPS documentation, it seems the question was asked. Is there a reason why it’s not in the IPUMS file? Does it have a different variable name in May 2015? Could it be included?

Yes, you are correct that this variable does seem to be available in the May 2015 Tobacco Use Supplement sample. I’ve sent a note to the IPUMS CPS team about adding this variable for May 2015. Outside of some prohibitive complication, this variable should be available relatively soon.
