Sample size in MARCH CPS 2014

Dear Sir/Madame,

What is the reason for the small sample size of March CPS 2014 comparatively to previous years?

Many thanks

The March 2014 ASEC implemented a split-design structure, as mentioned in the IPUMS-CPS release note. This split-design was used to compare two sets of income questions. The first set of questions, which is identical to those used in the past, was given to 5/8 of the sample with the remaining 3/8 receiving the redesigned income questions. Currently, the Census Bureau has only released the data for the 5/8 of respondents that received the original set of income questions, but the redesigned data is expected to become available in early 2015.

I hope this helps.
