The periodic Work Schedules Supplement includes a question about the reasons a person worked a second job. I see a number of variables from the Work Schedules Supplement in the database (variable names beginning with WS), but I don’t see this one. Was it included in the IPUMS database and, if so, what is the variable name?
IPUMS CPS has not integrated this variable into our system. We have been working to integrate additional supplement variables, so I will share your interest with the team.
If you require this data, you can download the unharmonized supplement from the NBER’s repository. You may then merge the sample with the rest of the harmonized data in an IPUMS CPS extract using the variables HRHHID, HRHHID2, and PULINENO (LINENO in IPUMS) as linking keys. If you email us directly at ipums@umn.edu, we may be able to share the source data from earlier iterations of the supplement.
