Is it possible to aggregate IPUMS OCC2010 codes so they are comparable with ATUS-X OCC2 codes?

I’m attempting to aggregate data for occupations using analyses in both IPUMS and ATUS-X. It appears at a glance that the ATUS-X OCC2 codes are just aggregations of the broad categories described (but not coded) in the IPUMS OCC2010 variable. Can I safely roll up the IPUMS categories so these groups are comparable? If not, is there any mapping that would allow me to compare data from both surveys, over time?

Yes, it seems that the OCC2 codes in ATUS-X are mostly the broad aggregated categories found in the OCC2010 variable in IPUMS USA. There are a few exceptions, where the OCC2 codes include two of the categories of OCC2010, but these instances shouldn’t impact what you are trying to do.

Great, that’s what I thought. Thanks for the quick response! I owe you one!
