How do I find totals on IPUMS?

I’m a beginner at using IPUMS. I’m looking to get the total for individuals age 20 to 24 not in school and not working for the state of Connecticut. I’ve managed to pull the education and employment fields okay so have what I need there. I’d like to make sure I’m getting the total correct. There are 3,000+ rows. To get the total, do I add up all the PERWT rows to get the total?

Yes, in general to find the total number of people with a given set of characteristics, you should sum the PERWT values for all people who match your criteria. You may also want to use the IPUMS USA online tabulator, which allows you to calculate totals without downloading an extract.
