The data from IPUMS is getting downloaded as a .dat file. How do I convert that to CSV or Excel?
You will need to resubmit your extract as a .csv file, which can be opened in Excel. On the download or revise extracts page, you can click “resubmit” next to an extract and change the file type. This IPUMS blog post provides a more detailed walk-through with screenshots.
